Ep. 020: Ask Kim: Investing In Blockchain vs. Bitcoin

by | Jun 3, 2018

In this episode of the SANE CRYPTO Podcast, Kim answers two similar questions from the Ask Kim mailbag about investing in blockchain technology/companies rather than the cryptocurrencies directly:

“It seems to me that there are two main focal points concerning blockchain technology. One is the secure ledger feature that makes a value store possible. The other is the potential for blockchain to streamline back office accounting/auditing functions thus cutting the cost of business[..] I am intrigued about the potential for BLCN to address the second. Your thoughts?” – Bert

“Do you see any opportunities to invest in companies that support cryptocurrencies?” – Doug

In this episode, I cover these reasons why I don’t invest in blockchain vs. bitcoin:
  1. Blockchain is to Internet as cryptocurrency is to email
  2. Conflates the technology with the investment. “Fat protocol” means value accruing at the company layer very uncertain.
  3. Violates all my investing rules: too narrow, not market neutral, not passive
  4. Double dipping
